This place is NOTHING like it used to be ...!!  I had been raving to my friend about the Chicken Pie Shop for so long that he finally decided he had to give it a try.  Jeez.... I don't know which was worse - the service or the food...but it was, by far, one of the most terrible dining experiences I've had in quite a while.  Since I truly cannot find a single good thing to say about the CPS now, I don't see any point in  leaving a long, detailed review.  Suffice it to say that I won't be going back - ever .... :(   Btw ... aren't chicken pot pies supposed to be made with chicken?  I know they used to be .... now they're part chicken and part turkey - and are a mixture of both white and dark meat (another change for the worse).  So dissapointed.

If you can get by all the ageism in the previous reviews, and try The Chicken Pie Shop, you will enjoy the food.  The prices are great and this is total comfort food.  The always-hot chicken pies have a nice flaky crust and delicious, saucy fillings.  I also like the open-face turkey sandwiches and roast beef sandwiches.   The food could use some pepper but that's a matter of taste.   There is nothing fancy or trendy about the food or the "style" at CPS, but that's what's kinda cool about it.   The waitresses are always sweet as are the elderly customers who love to smile at our kids and say hello.  This really is "that neighborhood spot" that locals cherish.

Old people, old people, and more old people. Yes, there are tons of sad looking elderlies here, but the food is tasty and the prices can't be beat.

The service was fast and amusing (our waitress was tripping out on one of my tattoos) and I give them an extra star for their chocolate pie alone. Someday I hope to be 90-years-old and eating at this restaurant.

Great, now I'm craving a chicken pie and dessert...

This place was okay, it sort of reminded me of a dirty old diner. As with the other posts, YES there were lots of old people, lots of them. As for the food, it was sub-par. I went in expecting phenomenal chicken pot pies of all varieties, and they only had a few options. I can honestly say I've had better frozen pies than this place. But for what it's worth, the food was okay, the service was okay. Overall this place was just okay.

Food for the soul, for sure. This is the ultimate comfort food especially for cold or rainy days. The pot pies here have a very homemade feel, like your grandma cooked you your favorite meal.

The pies are always warm, crust just the right amount of crisp, and inside an explosion of chicken and gravy. The pie dinners are $7 and comes with a pot pie, veggies, mashed potatoes, biscuit, and coleslaw, followed by a hearty slice of your favorite dessert pie.

The Chicken Pie Store can be iffy at times but generally consistent. The chicken pies are wonderful and incredibly inexpensive. The chicken fried steak is darn great and their dessert pies are generally rather excellent at the same time. Pleasant workers along with a easy laid back ambiance make this a spot fabulous. That stated, when you reside in San Diego and have not been ate at the chicken pie store, how dare you.
